Hey everyone. I'm a big fan of Medeski,Martin, and Wood, but I came across a brand new organ trio out of LA called "Big Organ Trio". They only have bootlegs out and are working on a debut release, but I saw them out here at a live show and they were really nasty live!! I was so impressed I decided to post this message. Can't remeber the organists name yet, (something like Mike Mann) but he get's some sounds out of that thing I've never quite heard before. Even crazier tones than Emerson, Lake, and Palmer at times, but they threw down. And somehow they added a new take on organ bands, completely different from MMW, Jimmy Smith (the real fatha of acid jazz), or even the new Benevento/Russo duo. Good stuuf! listening to "down and dirty" right now. i see the keith emerson connection. the drummer's pretty cool, too--a slightly cleaner-sounding 'zig' modeliste (meters.)

Thu, November 18, 2004 - 11:53 PMI saw them at this small bar, I believe called The Barrell in Sherman Oaks. They were kinda doing a house band, 3 sets deal all night. And they're younger dudes too.
Ya, you're right, Jimmy is one of the many fathers.......
