If you go to the Movement electronic music festival in Detroit and see Juan spin in the context of Detroit I guarentee it will make a lot more sense and you will probably really get it. I never got Detroit techno until I experienced the atmosphere, energy, people, and social context that gave birth to it. That festival totally changed my understanfding of electronic music as it showed me how the funk, soul, and jazz were alive and well in it, though laying low in Detroit. Now I can totally enjoy it. Outside the setting of Detroit that stuff does not always translate so well.
